At the inaugural RBC Canadian Open, a commitment was jointly made to raise $5 million for charity – specifically "Children's Health and Wellbeing" – over the 5 year term of RBC's title sponsorship. As a direct result of this commitment, a new high profile celebrity Pro-Am event was created: The RBC Canadian Open Mike Weir Charity Classic.
Held on the Monday of tournament week for the past two years, proceeds directly benefit The Mike Weir Foundation. Each of the foursomes was hosted by a celebrity or an elite PGA TOUR Professional. Participants competed in front of spectators with a single objective in mind: Charity. The event is an ideal kick-off to RBC Canadian Open week and helped build an engaging story around the 100th Anniversary celebration in 2009.
